Issue 234 of The Gooner from late March 2013 features Carl “Corporal” Jenkinson on the front cover and the Talking Reds editorial puts forward the view that we need more players like him who have a deep-rooted bond with the club and who play with the pride and passion we as fans want to see.

In this issue, there’s an interview with Chris “Chalky” Whyte, Arsenal centre-back (and very occasional striker) from the early 80s, who grew up just down the road from Highbury and used to stand on the North Bank as a boy. He talks about his slightly unusual career, who was responsible for his positional switch and why he had his toes broken deliberately one summer!

Elsewhere, there’s an article by Bernard Dowling questioning whether Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis has delivered on the promises he has made during his four year tenure during which he has earnt in excess of £8m and there’s also a piece which highlights some of the unsung Arsenal heroes from the last 40 years including Eddie Kelly, David Price and Sylvain Wiltord.

All this plus much more including all the usual features and columnists – Highbury Spy, Mickey Cannon, Anger Management, Inbox, match reports, In the Away End and another episode with Dwight Hart-Lane who this time struggles to get to grips with social media.
