Issue 239 of The Gooner from December 2013.

As the front cover proclaims, it’s a Big Festive Gooner which includes the now traditional gift to our readers – the 2014 Gooner Calendar which features 12 Wow Signings. We bet you can’t guess all twelve without looking!

Of course, BFG stands for something else as well and Per Mertesacker is our front cover star as he has been rock solid in our defence so far this season, forming a formidable partnership with Laurent Koscielny as we’ve stormed to the top of the table. Long may it continue.

Inside David Oudot ponders what’s likely to happen in the January transfer window and disputes Arsene’s claim that when everyone is fit we have loads and loads of strikers.

Speaking of signings, to complement the calendar we also asked Gooner contributors to tell us about the signings which made them groan. Let me assure you there are quite a few we’d all rather forget, but there are also a couple featured who will cause eyebrows to be raised.

Meanwhile Ian Henry recalls watching ‘The Boss’ in familiar surroundings and Howard Lamb questions why more fans don’t wear the right colours when attending games.

There are also articles about Gay Gooners, a memorable trip to Dortmund, Ian Wright, Kanu and Phil Wall’s nostalgic look back at programmes reaches the 1973-74 season.

All this plus much more besides including Mickey Cannon, Anger Management, Inbox, In the Away End, North Bank Times and Dwight Hart-Lane who attempts to buy a rare Tottenham shirt on eBay with predictably disastrous consequences.
