Issue 245 of The Gooner from September 2014 features our latest signing, Danny Welbeck, on the front cover. He certainly gives us hope, but will he also give us glory? As the editor says in his Talking Reds column the arrival of Welbeck combined with the earlier signing of Sanchez does mean we should see some exciting attacking football played by the team this season.

Simon Rose writes about the latest addition to our English core and whist he admits that he has never especially rated Welbeck, he questions whether his opinion was not well-informed and explains why he thinks Arsenal provides the stage for Danny to blossom into a top class striker.

We talk to Alex Fynn about his new book, written in conjunction with Gooner Editor Kevin Whitcher, ‘Arsene and Arsenal: The Quest to Rediscover Past Glories’, what has changed at Arsenal since his previous book and how he sees the future shaping up for Arsenal, Spurs and the Premier League.

There’s the second part of the Gooner’s Q&A with Perry Groves in which Layth Yousif talks to the ginger cult hero about keeping in touch with former team-mates, selling tickets and rising to the challenge of competing for a place in the team with Anders Limpar.

There are also articles by Jon Spurling and Charlie Ashmore on the transfer window, Peter Le Beau on participation in the Champions League, whilst Charlie Brooker argues why Mesut Özil has to play in his favoured number 10 role to be seen at his world-class best. Don’t miss the photo in our Besiktas trip report either of a mini-Özil spotted in Istanbul!

All this plus much more besides including Mickey Cannon, Anger Management, Inbox, In the Away End, North Bank Times, another nostalgic look back at programmes from the 70s and the second in our new series of Arsenal Legends which are not celebrated on the stadium cores; this time Jimmy Brain.
