The Gooner - Issue 255

Quantity :
Issue 255 of Arsenal’s best-selling fanzine, The Gooner, includes the traditional free Gooner calendar which for 2016 features 12 memorable games and one stunning goal from the first ten years at The Grove.

The front cover takes a humorous (we hope) view of the injury problems which have plagued the club this season and has the added bonus of not jinxing any particular player which, as long-standing readers will know, is something we seem prone to doing.

Amongst the highlights of issue 255 is the concluding part of Layth Yousif’s interview with journalist John Cross, whose book on Arsene Wenger has recently been published. John talks about how close Arsene came to joining Real Madrid, as well as how he thinks Wenger views Mourinho - which is especially interesting in light of Mourinho’s sacking – and the surprising names who hold our manager in the highest regard.

Elsewhere in the issue there’s the first of a two parter entitled In Search of the Lucky Pint in which Mike Francis recounts his visits over the last couple of years to the many pubs in the vicinity of the ground and to the ladies toilets inside the stadium. Errr…

Moving swiftly on, there’s also articles on some of the characters we have had amongst our fanbase, a tale of a very special lunch with the Arsenal manager and Charlie Ashmore’s series on The George Graham Years continues with a look back at first season in charge.

All this plus much more including The Spy, Mickey Cannon, Well Played, North Bank Times, Arsenal Programmes Through The Years, Inbox and the return of Dwight Hart-Lane who has an unfortunate festive experience.
