Issue 279 of The Gooner - Published Thursday 3rd October 2019
The Gooner issue 279 is the second of the 2019-20 season, and with the team’s defensive woes up to this point, welcomes back the return of injured defenders on its front cover. There are articles on defending as a team, whether Unai Emery is actually improving Arsenal, the kneejerk reactions of many football supporters in 2019, the club’s options at full back and what Arsenal’s identity is under the current head coach. There is plenty of retro content as normal, including an interesting piece on how VAR could have changed Arsenal’s history had it been around before the current season. There are interviews with Per Mertesacker, Amy Lawrence (on her new 89 book) and the author of a book that recalls the many friendlies played between Arsenal and Racing Club De Paris in the 20th century. There are articles on how the club has rebuilt in the past when trophy-winning sides have broken up, the fate of the FA Youth Cup winning Arsenal team from 2009 and one supporter deciding on which has been his favourite decade since 1970. There are details of GoonerFanzineTV - a new YouTube channel, a trip report from Frankfurt and Talking Point pieces on all the first team’s recent matches. Add to this the regulars - The Spy, Mickey Cannon and Talking Reds, plus Well Played, Inbox and our ‘Up the Arse!’ humour section to fill another 68 page edition packed with reading.
