The Gooner - Issue 262

Issue 262 of The Gooner published 23rd November 2016

Issue 262 of Arsenal’s best-selling fanzine, The Gooner, continues our trend of being weighted on the nostalgic side of things – and let’s be fair, modern day events are being done to death online, so it’s nice to offer some historical perspective about the club. So amongst the articles are pieces on the 1994 Cup Winners Cup semi-final against Paris St Germain, notorious broken legs suffered by Arsenal players, the 1988 Mercantile Credit Centenary tournament, the famous defensive back five, Mel Charles (John’s brother who played for the Gunners) and the 1992-92 season.

On a more current theme, there are articles on whether the 3-4-3 system would suit Arsenal, the defensive players in the under 21 ranks, an In The Away End that visits Spurs’ chatrooms at the time of the recent North London derby, Arsène Wenger’s life away from the club, the Champions League group stage seeding and a trip report on Ludogorets away.

The Arsenal Programmes Through The Years series returns to look at the programme in 1986-87. Dwight Hart-Lane returns for more cartoon humour and we have the concluding part of our interview with the club’s most notorious celebrity supporters, Piers Morgan. Plus the usual regulars Talking Reds, the Spy, Mickey Cannon, Well Played, Inbox, North Bank Times and the 91st Minute.
